They sometimes contain small amounts of manganese (Mn), carbon (C), molybdenum (Mo), and other elements to enhance hardness and toughness. Their typical hardness range is between HRC 45-55, making them medium-hard products suitable for grinding environments where the consumption of grinding media is not particularly sensitive.
Low chrome balls are generally produced using casting processes and undergo appropriate heat treatment to achieve the desired metallographic structure, ensuring that they possess certain wear resistance and impact resistance during grinding.
Compared to medium-chromium, high-chromium steel balls or ceramic grinding media, low chrome balls have a lower raw material cost, a more mature casting process, and lower production costs, making them especially suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises with limited procurement budgets.
Low chrome balls have been widely used in industry for decades. The casting technology and heat treatment processes are stable and reliable, with short processing cycles and flexible delivery times.
Due to the lower chromium content, low chrome balls typically possess better toughness and are less likely to crack during high-impact grinding, making them suitable for dry or wet grinding in high-intensity environments.
Low chrome balls have a high degree of standardization, with regular shapes and consistent weights, making it easy for users to select the appropriate diameter and ratio according to different mill specifications.
As an economical and practical grinding medium, low chrome balls have a solid foundation and wide application in the industrial grinding field. Although their wear resistance and corrosion resistance are not as high as those of high-end grinding media, their stable performance, low cost, and mature manufacturing system still make them important in traditional grinding processes. For enterprises that focus on cost control and have moderate grinding conditions, low chrome balls remain an essential choice.
